Byrds Boy
Byrd's Boy

Featuring only two characters on a single set, BYRD'S BOY revolves around Birdie Macauley (a 30-something African-American night watch woman) and a bedraggled 70-ish white vagrant (who has absolutely no idea who he is). In the confines of a nearly empty waterfront warehouse in Baltimore circa 1988, this engaging but improbable pair creates a universe.

Here, they discover and explore their past and present. Here, Birdie finds the power within her that she hadn't been able to acknowledge or harness. Here, the old man realizes who he is -- the son of the famous Antarctic explorer and hero -- Admiral Richard Byrd. Suggested by actual events and vulgarity-free, BYRD'S BOY is a comedy about serious things.
